GCCA Webinar – Material Neutrality and Timber: Facts and Fairness

About this webinar:

1st February 2022 – 12:30 – 13:30 UK time

A perception amongst many is that biobased materials are the most sustainable choice because they are renewable and are from plants that absorb carbon dioxide. In the construction sector, timber is seen by many as the sustainable low carbon alternative to concrete and steel.  How can right thinking people respond to these mis perceptions?

The cement and concrete industry has been active in their response for many years. GCCA launched a range of materials in 2021 under a “Facts and Fairness” campaign to equip the wider industry with information to respond to the timber lobby. This webinar will explain the GCCA material and guest speakers will present specific initiatives.

  • Presenter: Dr Andrew Minson, Concrete and Sustainable Construction Director, GCCA
  • Alessio Rimoldi, Secretary General, European Precast Association (BIBM), who will speak on theIndustry funded research to evidence timber gaps in GWP reporting
  • Tien Peng, Senior Vice President of Sustainability, Codes and Standards, National Readymixed Concrete Association USA, who will speak on the engineering company carbon footprint comparison of mass timber, steel and concrete
