Fletcher Building pledged its commitment to reducing carbon emissions in 2019 when it became the first building and construction firm in Australasia to set a Science-Based Target (SBT) for carbon reduction, promising to reduce its emissions by 30% by 2030.
Taking a holistic view, including smart designed solutions, using more with less, the use of a ship for domestic cement transport, and innovation on how we make cement and concrete, our emissions have reduced by 12% from our baseline year of 2018 while fast scaling our circular and waste management offer.
We have significantly reduced the carbon cement production by using 50% alternative fuels, such as three million end of life tyres and 80,000T of construction waste diverted from landfill, combined with the latest binder technology.
