What are we looking for – criteria:

We are looking for start-ups working on Next generation materials towards net zero concrete (e.g. low-carbon admixtures, SCMs, activators, or binders)

  • New admixtures, SCMs, activators, new clinkers etc.
  • Activation of low reactivity SCMs
  • New Synthesis SCM from no reactivity material
  • Other judging criteria:
    • Innovative and unique compared to traditional SCM
    • Environmental assessment
      • Resource availiability/scalability
      • Energy intensity
      • Emission intensity (scope 1/2 and 3)
      • CO2 use

What we are NOT looking for in this challenge:

  • No carbon capture technologies  
  • No kiln electrification  
  • No alternative fuels or low carbon fuels/ hydrogen 

What happens next?

Once you have submitted your entry, our team will be in touch with you should there be an further questions. We will thoroughly evaluate all the entries into the challenge and after rigorous evaluations with GCCA members, we will announce the shortlisted start-ups. Shortlisted start-ups will be invited to a formal pitch to GCCA members.

Successful start-ups will be partnered with GCCA members to form consortia and enter into formal working partnerships.

Timeline:

  • 20 February 2025 – Online launch event  
  • 20 April 2025 – Applications deadline
  • 5 May 2025 – Final shortlist announced
  • 21/22 May 2025 – Pitch Days (depending on the number of start-ups) 
  • 1 July – 30 September 2025 – Consortium agreement meetings 
  • October 2025 – May 2026 Accelerator programme
  • June 2026 – Demo Day (date to be confirmed)
