Core Project 10: Production and usage of carbonated or uncarbonated RCFines
Background
I am currently a PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. My academic background spans Environmental Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering, with both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees focusing on these disciplines. My previous research centered on the solidification/stabilization of contaminated soils, aiming to enhance environmental safety and remediation efficiency. Currently, my research is dedicated to the development of low-carbon cementitious materials and the carbonation-based recycling of waste concrete, contributing to sustainable construction and carbon reduction initiatives.
Research topic
My research focuses on the efficient recycling of waste concrete through wet carbonation methods. Specifically, I investigate the carbonation mechanisms and work on improving process efficiency to enhance material performance and sustainability. To achieve this, I combine experimental studies with thermodynamic simulations to analyze the carbonation kinetics and phase transformations of cementitious materials. My work extensively involves spectroscopic characterization techniques, allowing me to proficiently utilize XRD, solid-state NMR, TEM, and other analytical tools. Additionally, I am dedicated to developing advanced carbonation technologies to facilitate the high-value utilization of solid waste, contributing to low-carbon construction materials and circular economy initiatives.
