Taiheiyo Cement has started the project “Development of Carbon Circulation Technology for the Cement Industry”, which separates CO2 from the kiln exhaust gas at the cement plant and utilises captured CO2 throughout the cement value-chain. Currently, a pilot-scale chemical absorption plant (10t/d) to capture CO2 is being installed at Kumagaya Plant and operation will start in 2021. Demonstration-scale tests to mineralise CO2 in ready-mixed concrete, precast concrete and concrete waste are conducted simultaneously. The project is supported by a grant from NEDO until 2022. After the end of support, the project will be partially continued with private funds for the several years.
