Dangote Cement Ibese – Alternative Fuel Co-Processing Project

The Alternative Fuel (AF) Co-Processing project at Ibese Plant was launched in 2021 with a feeding system installed to feed AF at the calciner. Target fuels include biomass, shredded tires, waste papers and refuse-derived fuel, selected for availability, cost-effectiveness, calorific value, and safety. From 2021 (FY) to 2025 (Oct, YTD), AF usage grew from 3,488 tons to 96,761 tons, achieving 6.6% thermal substitution rate in 2025 and reducing carbon footprint by 20 kgCO₂/Ton cement equivalent, without compromising clinker quality. The challenges included high cost of sourcing AF, community, and regulatory issues; all addressed through stakeholder management and regulatory compliance.
