Title:
Geisel Library - Arnel Garcia
Description:
Geisel Library, UC San Diego’s architectural centerpiece, was designed in 1970 by William Pereira in a futuristic Brutalist style. Its exposed concrete is both structure and surface, celebrated for its raw texture, massive weight, and the deep shadows it creates. The bold, geometric, tiered cantilevers make the building feel like a giant concrete tree, a visual metaphor for knowledge that is rooted, layered, and always expanding. For Tritons, UCSD students, and alumni, it stands as a fountain of knowledge, where curiosity refills and ideas keep flowing. The library honors Dr. Seuss and Audrey Geisel.
